Drug Treatment Options

Many people that are addicted to prescription medications do not consider themselves a drug addict and certainly do not willfully seek out Drug Treatment in order to overcome their addictions. Their argument is, "My doctor prescribed these to me, and I am taking them based on his or her recommendation" the problem often stems when a doctor abruptly stopped prescribing the medication after the patient is physically addicted. This leads to the patient changing doctors, faking pain at an emergency room in order to acquire a new prescription or turning to the illicit drugs.
Drug Treatment options include detoxifying the patient in a medical facility in order to help them with the terrible withdrawals that follow. Those addicted to crack cocaine or heroin cannot simply stop without help because the body becomes so dependant on the substance that when the substance is removed, withdrawals follow and most people never make it through the first day. This is why Drug Treatment programs are so useful because a medical staff can actually supply non-addictive drugs in order to help with the cravings as the person detoxifies.
For those that have an addiction to heroin, morphine, and other opiates, many doctors and Drug Treatment facilities use methadone in order to wean the patient off the drugs he or she is addicted and lessen the painful withdrawals. The methadone is monitored and lessened over the course of the Drug Treatment plan until it is withdrawn altogether.
Part of the Drug Treatment plan is the addict learning to live a drug-free life, which takes time. Most recovering addicts live in what is called a halfway or recovering facility once the drugs are fully out of their systems. This helps the addict learn to live day-to-day without the use of drugs.
Lastly, and one of the most crucial aspects to a successful Drug Treatment plan is ensuring the addict does not continue hanging around the same group of friends they did before the treatment began because if they do, they will end up falling off the wagon as the temptation will be too strong. Therefore, a successful drug treatment plan means a complete change of life and often scenery where the ex-addict moves to a new city or town in order to remain free of temptations. Ex-addicts are the same as ex-alcoholics; they are just one pill away from resuming a life of addiction. Their behavior continually needs to be monitored by themselves, and they must desire to stay sober and clean. Visit our website for more information on http://www.drugnet.net
