5 Tips To Cure Your Acne

At some point in our lives, we will all experience a pimple now and then. For some people, though, it is more than just an occasional stray blemish. Sometimes acne can be a real problem. Teenagers are more prone to acne outbursts, which can be especially troubling since they tend to be self conscious about their appearance as it is. Here are 5 tips to cure your acne.

It is probable that your first course of action would be to head to the drug store and buy an over the counter medicine. If you do look to purchase a product, be on the lookout for certain ingredients. The 2 main ingredients used in anti acne products are salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. Both of these have been proven effective at fighting acne and removing dead skin cells. Either of these ingredients can be found in various forms like creams, gels, cleansers and medicated pads.



In addition to products found at the pharmacy, there are few things you can do at home to combat your acne. There are a variety of things to focus on including diet, exercise, and behavioral patterns. Exercise is good to reduce stress. Things like yoga and tai chi will be good for your body as well as bringing stress levels down.

As far as diet go, there are things to avoid as well as things to add to your plate. You should look to add fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamins and minerals. Vitamins A & D are particularly good for the skin. Vitamin C and zinc are great for the immune system which will work against bacteria that can get stuck in the pores and create bigger acne problems out of what may have been a short lived pimple or two.

Processed sugars and refined carbohydrates can also lead to an acne problem. The reason is that eating excessive sugars and processed flours raises the blood sugar level. The body counters this by producing insulin and other hormones. This leads to the sebaceous gland to overproduce the oils (sebum) that flow to the skin. With more sebum flowing to the skin's surface, the chances of clogged pores increase.

As for drinks, avoid caffeine filled products like coffee, tea and colas. Caffeine can raise stress which leads to hyper active sebaceous glands. The best bet is to drink water. Water flushes toxins and impurities from the body and helps move nutrients throughout the body including to the skin. Drinking 8 ounces three times a day or more will be very beneficial. Milk is also a good choice as it is usually fortified with Vitamins A and D.

Vitamin D can also be produced more by the body with exposure to the sun. Sunlight is actually healthy for the skin. Of course you do not want to spend too much time outside without sunscreen as that can lead to skin damage in the long run. But 15 minutes of rays during the day can do wonders for your complexion.

Steam is good for opening up pores and allowing them to drain. There are steam machines designed specifically for your face. 20 minutes in front of one of these may be refreshing to the skin and help clear up pores. After each steam session follow up with a good cleansing.

Be sure to cleanse your face twice every day, once in the morning and once before bed. At your evening washing, do not put anything else on our face except any medication and/or a moisturizer. And speaking of putting things on your face, no matter how much you want to cover up pimples, it is a bad idea to put makeup or concealers on them. These products will only aggravate them and increase the risk of infections.
