Many people, especially teens, experience acne at some point in their lives. It is simply a result of follicle blockage in the pores on one's face. These blockages can lead to redness and swelling, which may eventually scar. The following are some acne tips to help those who are afflicted or who know someone who is.
Acne is not a serious disease, but it does often have a significant effect on those who have it. It can lower one's self esteem, as it significantly affects one's appearance. Even a very beautiful person may have their beauty marred by red pimples and scars.
The result of acne's effect on one's appearance is that people may try to avoid social situations. They may try to keep away from social events Unfortunately pimples and acne often coincide with one's teenage years, which can be the most socially-focused time in one's life. Thus, acne combined with already low self esteem or social issues can be a double threat.
When you do have acne, it may have several different causes. The hormonal fluctuations associated with puberty often cause young people's skin to break out. A woman's period may also either cause or relieve acne.
Acne also often results from family genetics. Those who have family members who have or have had acne are probably more likely to get it.
Stress is a common cause of acne, according to some. Stress can come from social issues, school or work pressures, among other reasons. If someone gets acne and thinks that it comes from stress, they can avoid stressful situations or try to learn to calm down. Washing one's face with certain products regularly can also help to reduce acne.
Oil on one's face can cause acne. Simply washing one's face with cleanser can thus reduce acne. There are also specialty products that one can use if he or she is experiencing acne. Everyone has different skin, though, so different products may need to be tried out before the right one is found.
Oftentimes topical treatments are used for acne. These treatments have different ingredients, but they all work to reduce the amount of acne. They are put directly on top of break out spots, which can help to get rid of them.
Oral treatments, ranging from birth control pills (for females) to retinoids can also be effective. These can be prescribed specifically to help acne, or for other reasons. They work in different ways, but both work to reduce acne, as with topical treatments. Hormone treatments work by adjusting the hormones in one's body, which can cause acne. However, some women actually break out more while on certain birth control pills. Retinoids work by adjusting the oil level of the skin, which often causes acne.
More severe types of acne may call for more severe measures. Some people opt for dermabrasion, which basically removes layers of skin from the face. This can reduce acne scars. Light and laser therapy show some promise, as they can reduce acne and acne scars.
