Flight simulators can be a lot of fun. The biggest hurdle to jump is getting your wits around getting started. There are so many things to learn and so many controls and instruments it is very hard to know where to start and what to do first. Like what matters and what doesn’t. The other thing is newbies all want to get up in the air and get the feel of what it’s like. They don’t want to be learning controls and instruments forever and get impatient to get going.
If you have an interest in sim flying and would like to see what it’s like then you need someone to give you a bit of tuition to get started. What if there were some instruction videos for very first timers on simulators to get the feel of what they can do. A flight Sim School no less?
One of the great things about simulators is you don’t hurt yourself when you get it wrong. As long as no one is looking it doesn’t matter how many times you crash or get it wrong.
Don’t spend a lot of money.
There are programs that use only the keyboard and mouse to do all the flying and this is the best place to start before you spend money on hardware gear like joysticks/yokes (the steering wheel of an airplane) and rudder pedals. You will soon see if you like it and then can get into more elaborate equipment as many do once they have tried it out and get hooked.
Complex Simulators
So home made Sims are mind boggling in their complexity and extent with multiple screens and have incredibly realistic cockpits. Some even have hydraulic pistons to move the unit about for greater realism just like the professional jobs.
Start with a simple Sim
But they all started out just playing on a keyboard and mouse and learning what all the buttons and instruments did. There are a few flight sim schools that are just like flying for real. Even these can be too much for the very beginner. However one new flight sim school starts the newbie off right at the very beginning so they can have some fun flying from the very first try. I have tried it out and found it was perfect for someone totally new to the game.
