An Onsite AED or automated external defibrillator is a life-saving device that delivers doses of electric shock to a victim of SCA. During cardiac arrest, the heart beats erratically and causes the blood to cease circulating. When Philips onsite AED is placed on the victim’s chest, it analyzes the condition of the heart, normalizes its rhythm, and thus revives the patient.
According to the American Heart Association (AHA), a voluntary health organization that seeks to build a healthy and heart disease-free country, it is possible to save around 20,000 to 100,000 cardiac arrest victims with fundamental training, timely help, and use of onsite AEDs. Use of onsite AED by Philips can increase the chances of cardiac arrest patients to survive by as much as 49%.
However, this number will not be reached if basic rescue training is not in place. The AHA leads in the implementation of AED programs and trainings around the country. In addition, non government organizations like the American Red Cross conducts cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and AED trainings with the goal of enabling people to overcome their fear in making life-saving decisions. Completing this basic course allows individuals to become nationally recognized certified rescuer.
When you become a certified rescuer, you get to use the same Philips onsite AED used by firefighters, police officers, and emergency medical services.
Using this emergency medical device is simple and easy, especially when you underwent basic training on CPR and AEDs. The onsite AED by Philips is innovatively and intelligently designed to be used by a non-medical person. It is battery-operated device and requires the user to pull a green handle to make the device ready to use. In addition, this gadget self-conducts daily, weekly, and monthly tests of its electrical components, battery, and subsystems to make sure that it will function during times of need.
Philips onsite AED comes in a semi-automatic model. LIFEPAK® EXPRESS AED has a voice command system that guides the rescuer throughout the entire rescue process. It also features reduced energy electrodes, which makes it suitable to use even to an infant or child affected with cardiac arrest. In addition, this model stores ECG data that the user can later review in a computer.
While using the AED, the gadget also reminds the rescuer to call the EMS. Should the EMS require details of the victim’s heart, these can easily be retrieved from the internal memory.
Onsite AED is the first defibrillator available for personal, commercial, and institutional use without prescription.
Aside from training programs and researches, the AHA leads in the successful implementation of onsite AEDs in schools, airports, hotels, restaurants, malls, and other public areas.
The AHA was established in 1924 by six cardiologists who represented several groups from different states of the US.
