There are a myriad of software options available, but they all have a similar mission: to negotiate data transfers between clients and servers via Hypertext Transfer Protocol, the communication protocol of the Web. Simple exchange of client machine and web server goes like this:
First the client browser dissects the URL in a series of separate parts, including address, path name and protocol.
A second name server (DNS) translates domain name that the user has entered his IP address, a numeric combination that represents actual address of your website (a domain is simply a front to make the site easier to remember addresses).
3. The browser will now decide which protocol (the language used to communicate with workstations, servers) must be used. Examples of FTP or File Transfer Protocol, and HTTP, the Hypertext Transfer Protocol.
4. Server sends a GET request to Web server to retrieve the address it has received. For example, when a user sends a GET 1.jpg command http://www.example.com/1.jpg browser to example. This confirms that the address exists, is the necessary files, run the appropriate scripts, exchanges cookies if necessary, and returns the results to the browser.
If it cannot find the file, the server sends an error message to the client.
5. The browser translates the data received in HTML and displays the results to the user.
In addition to its functions listed above, the Web server also has a number of additional responsibilities. Whereas a Web browser simply translates and displays the data that feeds on a Web server is responsible for the distinction between error and different data types.
A Web server must, for example, specify the correct code for any type of internal error and send to the browser immediately after it occurs. It also distinguishes between the various elements on a Web page (Como GIF, JPEG and audio files) so the browser knows which files are saved in the format. According to the function of the site, a Web server can also have numerous additional tasks to tackle, including logging statistics, management, security and encryption, use the images to other sites (for banners, images, etc) dynamic content generation, or the management of e-commerce functions.
