Well this article will really give you some insights about carpal tunnel and suggest where immediate, and often permanent, relief can be obtained.
JKL Medical Dictionary (1998) defines carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) as a restriction or narrowing of the large nerve which passes through the wrist and to the fingers. The wrist is surrounded by a band of fibrous tissue that normally functions as a support for the joint. For some reason, sometimes the tendons thickens and as they enlarge the swelling narrows the carpal tunnel and causes the median nerve to be compressed. The carpal tunnel is the space between this sheath (above) and the bones (below) that make up the forearm and hand.

Research, conducted by the National Institute of Health, has revealed that women are three times more prone to acquire CTS than men perhaps because the carpal tunnel itself may be smaller in women than in men. The dominant hand is usually affected first and produces the most severe pain. Causes of Carpal tunnel syndrome are often as a result of a combination of factors such as poor physical health, the presence of increased pressure on the median nerve and tendons in the carpal tunnels, a congenital condition of having a smaller carpal tunnel than normal, trauma sprain or fracture to the wrist, hypothyroidism or over activity of the pituitary glands, rheumatoid arthritis, constantly working with vibrating tools, fluid retention during pregnancy, menopause and the development of cyst or tumor in the carpal tunnel.
When you are aware of the reason behind the carpal tunnel illness, it will be easier for you to avoid doing those things again so you can prevent the same condition for recurring. This will require major lifestyle changes. Treatments for carpal tunnel syndrome should however begin as early as possible, under a doctor's direction if possible. If the CTS is occupation-related as in the case of keyboard workers, you should seek to modify your activities, like adjusting the computer keyboard and chair for maximum comfort..
Professional therapy is optional at the early carpal tunnel symptom stage. Instead you can use a specially designed brace that is then wrapped around the wrist up to the lower part of your palm and across the flesh between your fore finger and your thumb. This eases the pain allowing you to complete your tasks with a minimum of discomfort. Carpal tunnel syndrome can range from a minor inconvenience to a disabling condition, depending on its cause and persistence and the individual characteristics of the patient. Many cases of CTS are mild, and when symptoms don't last long, they often resolve (disappear) on their own. It is however a condition which should not be taken lightly.
For this reason if you experience the signs of this ailment you should first get yourself well informed about its causes, symptoms and cures for in your haste to get relief from the pain that accompanies it, costly and unnecessary payments for cures that do not work will inevitably result.
